02 Nov Livin the Dream SEASON ONE!
Livin’ the Dream!
Being an artist is never easy. Especially in massive metro areas where everyone with a camera these days are considered photographers, or a person with a chiseled jaw line or pretty face is a model. With the advent of new tech throughout our digital revolution and digital age, it’s hard to get a leg up on all these so-called photographers, models, makeup artists, and stylists. Students of said trades are excluded, everyone does start somewhere, but somewhere in the mix got all these people caught up on something when they don’t know the first thing about applying makeup, posing, or lighting techniques or even rule of thirds!
So we’re doing something different. We’re doing a limited entry competition where only the serious artists will be competing. Artists that want to show the world just how badass of a creator they are. Artists that want to win a mantle that actually means something. Not just an upvote on reddit or purpleport or great you won a contest on model mayhem cause it showed some nip, even though the image was supremely high keyed and not adjusted for white balance and you couldn’t tell the model’s eye color cause the face wasn’t in focus. Kudos.
Let’s bring real competitions back into the fold. Not just a pretty face and attitude causing drama, let’s give the world a look at what the real artists look like. Let’s showcase exceptional talent across the nations and let them watch your story being told.
This competition goes to the very roots of why we started, with our very first video on our facebook, it asks – “What’s your story?”
Well, we’re putting your story on for the world to see.
Competition teams will compete in 1-day only competitions at amazing venues, looking to win a cash prize, the title of “Best Artist (photographer, model, etc) in the City”, a magazine feature (potentially a cover!), a website feature, and we’ll all be filming it for an epic TV show that’s planned to air currently for four seasons – because that’s how much people want to see how epic the true artists are.
Below are the first 9 competitions. We won’t be posting the rest of the competitions until roughly February, so if you aren’t in the following 9 locations, we highly recommend checking out Issue 7 of the magazine – it lists all 34 spots, themes, and dates – get ahead of the curve, start planning now, so you and your team will be ready when we get to your city!
1. January 20 – Los Angeles – Cosplay
2. January 21 – Los Angeles – Flashback Fashion (90’s or earlier era Fashion w/Modern Twist)
3. February 3 – Las Vegas – Apocalypse
4. February 17 – Phoenix – Mardi Gras
5. February 24 – Dallas – Shibari
6. March 3 – Austin – Body Paint
7. March 17 – New Orleans – Masquerade Ball
8. March 24 – Panama City – Nautical
9. March 31 – Nashville – Gunpowder and Lead
Competitive teams will be competing to win a cash prize, magazine and website features, share their stories to the world – openly and confessionals, we will also be interviewing local artists in each of the areas we go through to see what their stories are – guests on the show. Viewers will get an inside scoop at how veterans run businesses as well as being an artist in the digital age and just how difficult the struggle really is not doing a 9-5. It’ll also be a show that is showcasing different veteran businesses, how veterans and others use art to heal, cope, inspire, motivate themselves and others locally and globally in some cases.
Teams will get a certain time period to shoot a concept within a specific theme set for each location. Teams are made up of 2-4 creatives. There will be a cap of 30 teams in most places due to the size and time constraints of the venues we’re hosting the events at. Entry fees will be going to charity and cash prize and it secures your spot in the competition.
Teams will have 10 days to get their final sets in to the judging panel and the judges will critique each set over the course of 2-3 days depending on how many teams there are. There will be judges from all over the world viewing and determining the final calls.
Once the judges make their determination, the winning teams will be notified and a payment will be sent, the winners will be announced on the show while it’s airing as well as published in the magazine and/or on the website depending on winning place.
This is not a competition for the weak of heart. Judges will be harsh and critical. The viewers will be that way as well. Some judges may want to get an outside opinion. Some judges may not want to decide on anyone. It’s not going to be something as simple as a “cool picture”, here ya go.
Models will really need to focus on their posing, facial expressions, wardrobe fitting, posture, scuffs on their shoes, hair out of place, glasses that have smudges, runs in hose, an assortment of things. Photographers will need to ensure their editing style is consistent the entire set, lighting is done properly, contrast, white balance, making sure they bring all the necessary items they need to the shoot. Makeup Artists will need to make sure they’re doing touchups as necessary if the models start to sweat, applying different looks potentially for different ideas/concepts the team decides to shoot during their time frame. Body Painters need to make sure their lines are drawn smoothly and crisp, riggers need to ensure ropes aren’t frayed (unless they’re meant to be), designers need to ensure the model looks right with the chosen wardrobe. Basically – everyone needs to bring their A-game – cause January 20th – It’s game on.
This is art. You’re living it. Show the world.
To find out more on how you can get involved, either as a fan or compete as an artist, we have set up a page here on the site for the tour and show – Livin the Dream 2018! It’s also on the menu tab and will be broken down per season and location!
