Cheyenne Goode was named after a truck. I guess her dad really liked the Chevy Cheyenne. But we’re not sure there’s much that’s very truck like from this fascinating lady brought to us by Photographer Hal Masover. Maybe it’s just random luck of the draw but I find myself describing yet another model that has had to overcome severe hardship, in the case of Cheyenne it’s chronic illness. Nine years ago at the age of 16, Cheyenne became severely ill with something called Postural Orthostatic Tachychardia Syndrome. She had daily headaches and was also diagnosed as having Fibromyalgia and Endometriosis. It’s hard to write this and imagine the pain, fear and worry all of this would entail. Before getting sick she was very into music but had to give it up as her body betrayed her. Over a period of years with trips back and forth to the Mayo Clinic she became functional again and began to seek other avenues of art. Cheyenne is an actress. She recently completed a music video. And as you can see in these photos, acting helps inform her modeling. I have found this to be true of other models I have worked with. Incorporating a little acting into posing can very much enhance the result. I learned about Cheyenne’s illness some weeks after working with her. In our photo session she never once mentioned illnesses or limitations. The fact that she is chronically ill and manages pain on a daily basis makes my session with her all the more remarkable. But then again, had she mentioned any of this, would I have asked her to pop her hip out a little farther? Probably not. And in hindsight, I wonder if that hurt. But she never said a word. This is another facet of models I have worked with that have overcome great odds to be where they are. They don’t complain. Maybe it’s because they don’t want people to feel sorry for them. Maybe it’s because they have discussed it far too much and are just tired of explaining. I don’t know. But it leaves me a little in awe. It’s hard not to admire the very talented Cheyenne and I hope you agree that she is very very good! ~Hal Masover
