EVM VOLUME 3 SUBMISSIONS GUIDE

PLEASE READ THE WHOLE PAGE PRIOR TO SUBMITTING!

WEBSITE SUBMISSIONS

The website is open to featuring more than just model community content. With this being said, the following stories, coverage, and other submissions we are looking to publish are as follows:

  1. Creative Writing, Poetry, CREATIVE INDUSTRY news, and other writing content

  2. Creative Community Coverage – think of this as musicians, concerts, painters, fashion designers, artists of all types. This can range from concert coverage, press releases (please inquire prior to sending in), interviews, fashion shows, jewelry designers, and more.

  3. Tutorials and Reviews – Do you review products? Or have you ever thought about reviewing a product and consider yourself a knowledgeable person in your field? Have you ever thought about creating tutorial videos to inform others how you do things to make life easier in your field?

  4. Modeling Content – Modeling content on our website will have LIMITED space from external submissions in the near future, but have no fear, our solution is for you to join us on our epic adventure of taking over the world. If that’s something that interests you, we encourage you to submit an application. Until an announcement is made, we are absolutely still reviewing external submissions for both website features and print features.

  5. OTHER – pictorials and editorials of anything not already covered must still follow the “Standard Web Feature Guidelines” listed below. This can include, but not limited to: sports photography, landscape and nature photography, travel photography (hint: we like seeing cool stuff from far away places), and styles of creative forms we haven’t listed.

STANDARD FEATURE GUIDELINES

  1. Any feature sent that has an article with it, or is writing, should be long enough to convey coherent thoughts to the person reading it – i.e., more than two sentences. We’re going to stamp a minimum of 300 word count to this and hope for the best.

  2. All features submitted for web must not have anyone pictured (with the exception of well-recognized memes/celebrities) under the age of 18.

  3. Writing features should be well written, factually checked and cited  with reputable sources if it pertains, not plagiarized, and should have at least 3-5 pertinent images that’s associated to go along with the article/story/poem, etc. These are NOT the same thing as Model Features. Emphasis is writing – not modeling.

  4. Tutorials and Reviews should include at minimum stills of the products and a writing piece. They can also include graphs/charts, and video would be a rad thing – it needs to be the original video but we can also accept the link to your own Vimeo/YouTube channel – the video should not be released publicly on your channel until 30 days AFTER it’s been published with us.

  5. Interviews should be pertinent, entertaining, informative, and geared towards telling a story – not just a list of questions and answers. We want to help tell that person’s story, not just make them appear to be Q&A only. Everyone’s story is important – try and capture that in the interview. Our editorial staff can help if you need guidance on this. Videos are also acceptable but should be done correctly, not with a cell phone.

  6. Model Features should be relevant to our current brands that do not have standalone sites and should include some form of article but it is NOT a requirement. Pictorials for modeling should be a minimum of 14 images of the SAME SET, with a max of 24 images. Editorials for modeling should definitely have some form of article and be a minimum of 10 images with a max of 20 images. Model Features for website are considered OPEN THEME/STYLE/GENRE. We do allow nudity but it is not a requirement, so all features for the website CANNOT have anyone depicted under the age of 18. This includes any other feature we allow, as stated above. This is for both website and monthly issue submissions!

  7. Website deadlines, regardless of content, are due no later than the 1st of the month prior to the intended month of publication. Example: April’s deadline would be March 1st, 2019.

WEB FEATURE SIZE REQUIREMENTS

Images for website features should be sized at 72dpi or 96dpi and should be sized for 1500 pixel count on the left edge of the image. If you are submitting for either print OR web consideration, please submit at print size requirements and we can resize the images for web if it’s approved.

Videos submitted should be pertinent to the featured content, SHOULD NOT include any embedded advertising, and should have a rolling credit at the end/beginning of the video for all team members that created it. It CAN be submitted as a link for Vimeo/YouTube, but the videos should NOT be posted publicly until after 30 days of EVM publishing it.

ALL writing features should be a minimum of 300 words. This includes but is not limited to: interviews, stories, news coverage, event coverage, reviews, and tutorials.  This does not include poems.

PRINT FEATURE SUBMISSIONS

Print Features for now include the following:

Model Industry related content as relevant to the Volume’s themes as listed below. ALL Model Features submitted MUST contain some form of written article! Ask questions, describe the shoot/session, inspire others by telling people your thoughts on the theme or the content you’re submitting, write a short (300 word minimum) fictional piece on the character being portrayed, etc. Help US tell YOUR story! 🙂 There is not a defined style, but the set must be consistent of the theme you’re submitting for. Example: shooting a fashion set based on the theme for May. EVM does consider itself to be “alternative” but we believe art is in the eye of the beholder. Selections are based on quality of content through modeling, photography, and ability to coincide with the theme.

For Volume 3, our generalized requirements (see above Standard Feature Guidelines – Number 6) will be the same for each set submitted, but each theme has their own requirements.

GENERAL PRINT SIZING AND REQUIREMENTS

Sizing should be 300dpi and for portrait orientation (vertical), the bottom should be 8.5in wide with the left edge being 11in tall. The bleed space should be .5in on all sides – meaning the subject of the image should be in a 8×10.5 space.

For landscape orientation (horizontal), the bottom edge should be 17in in width and the left edge should be 11in in height. 300dpi. Subject of the image should have proper bleed space. Remember, if we do dual-page spread, try to NOT directly center your subject, make them off center to the left or the right of the frame. The bleed space should be .5in on all sides – meaning the subject of the image should be in a 16.5×10.5 space.

VOLUME 3 THEMES, GUIDELINES, AND DEADLINES FOR EACH

Please note: Editorials (sets sent in with a written article) stand a much higher chance of being selected for our print issues. Written articles may include, but not limited to, interviews of the artists, stories referencing the characters being portrayed, creative writing that goes along with the set and the theme, tutorials, and your story as an artist.

By submitting, you are stating that you have permission/authorizations and all clearances to submit items to Elan Vital Magazine (online and print) and all of our media partners/collaborators for media distribution. We, including our media partners/collaborators, are held blameless for any and all disputes which arise out of your submissions, read or unread. Elan Vital Magazine is not responsible for any cost associated with the production of your submission. Unfortunately, we will NOT be able to send out complimentary issues your work is featured in – however, our tearsheets are posted publicly on our Facebook Page in Albums.  Photography/Video Submissions: By submitting content, you are allowing Elan Vital Magazine to potentially publish your work, granting us permission to use your work in any of our publications, websites, marketing material, advertisements, videos, social media, and any other mediums or formats used in the creation and dissemination of Elan Vital Magazine content.

During the selections process, you agree to keep your submissions private until notified by Elan Vital Magazine if you have been accepted or not – currently we do not send out declination notices. This process normally does not take longer than 60 days. Submissions are officially screened from the deadline to 5-6 days, then notifications go out. If you have not heard from us by the 7th day after deadline, please let us know if you’d like to know any constructive criticism or would like follow-up on decisions made. Any set submitted that is shown to have been publicly placed online anywhere, or published in a different publication, will automatically be declined with no notice. We understand artists get excited about the work they’ve created, so we ask that if you post teasers of a set you are submitting (no more than 3), do not include those with your submission.

No submission should be watermarked.

No submission should leave out full credits list, this includes all available social media links, names of those involved (stage names are fine but real names need to be on file), and all positions, i.e., makeup artist, hair stylist, wardrobe designer, etc.

Good submissions should follow the above guidelines from this page as well as depict a variety of posing (if modeling/portraiture) as well as different angles.

We place priority on submissions that include an article (editorial).

Please include a title for your submission.

Do not “share” folders with us on Dropbox, just send a link if you are following up with email. The form below is the BEST method – Copy the link to the dropbox folder and paste into the spot on the form where it asks for it by clicking in the box and using CTRL+V on the keyboard for paste.

DO NOT NAME THE FOLDER ElanVital only! NAME YOUR FOLDER THE SET TITLE AND THE MONTH ISSUE! EXAMPLE: “Chocolate Harmony – APRIL  2019”

If you have published your set to ANY social media – that is NOT an exclusive set. If the link to your submission is your facebook/instagram/etc portfolio – that is NOT a submission.

READ THE GUIDELINES. READ THE GUIDELINES. READ THE GUIDELINES. We cannot actually stress that enough – hopefully the red font makes it stand out more.

All submissions should use our form here on the website, with a follow-up email to bonjour@elanvital.media (this is so if we email you, it doesn’t automatically go to spam)!

EVM VOL 3 WEB AND PRINT SUBMISSION FORM

USE THIS FORM TO SUBMIT TO THE WEBSITE OR THE MAGAZINE!

PAYOUTS:

Magazine Payouts (features in our monthly issue) are commission based and external contributors that are the submitter earn 2-4% profits generated from the sale of the issue they are published in, in a single payment, being within 90 business days following the month of the release. For example, if your work is published in June, your payout period would be based on all sales earned between June 1-June 30 and you would receive funds typically up to 90 business days after the first business day in July. Some platforms have longer payout times (specifically Amazon and B&N), and in those cases, any sales made on those platforms will be retroactively applied during the time period earned (Date of release to end of the month the issue is released in).
As of July 2019, all issues must meet a minimum sales quota for contributors to receive a payout – this is explained in our agreements sent out, should your set be selected for feature.

Elan Vital Magazine features between 8-13 submissions each month in the magazine and up to 15 external submissions for the website. This is in addition to any of our staff features and internally produced work.
Selections are based on quality of photography and quality of the modeling, mixed with quality of makeup and wardrobe as well as articles turned in.

*****NOTE: We will currently not be paying contributors for website features. While this saddens us deeply and we are regretful in doing so as it goes against our creed, we are unable to make enough profit from magazine sales to do so any longer. Once we begin having advertisements on the website (very few, as we don’t want to be one of “those” sites, we will be able to go back to paying website contributors).
